Hail Warriors!!
Im absolutely dying to do a multiplayer campaign/hotseat, on either RTW, M2TW or on Kingdoms!
RTW is hard to do, requiring mods and stuff to get it to run properly. whereas M2TW and Kingdoms is a lot simpler.
Kingdoms, obviously, has a Hotseat mode as standard. M2TW hotseat needs to be unlocked by changing the preferences file, but still is nowhere near as complicated as a RTW Hotseat!
Now, the other main thing i need for a Hotseat is people to do it with.
I know a lot of you WANT to do a hotseat, but thats not what im asking. Im asking how many of you CAN commit to Hotseat on either M2TW or Kingdoms, and will be active and not hold up the game?
If you can do it, remember thats CAN and not WANT to do it, please post/vote here on what format.
Personally, i would rather play on the largest Campaign Map there is, so i would prefer to do a M2TW Hotseat. However im aware a Hotseat on Kingdoms would be easier, so i'll go with the results from the vote.
So post and vote, let me know if you can do it and what format, once we have players and format sorted, we will finalise Factions and rules.

Hail Warriors Of Troy
I am currently making a Britannia Campaign for Captain Johnny, Emperor's Consul Mehmet and myself, but if anyone is interested please let me know immediately. Before I go to sleep I will be making it just for the three of us.
If we can get one on MTW2 it would be really good. I look forward to one for Rome: Total War if we can find an efficient way to conduct it. These campaigns take months to complete, so everyone has to be prompt. Encourage others to go through with it in order to make it easier.
I look forward to a MTW2 campaign, but if it is difficult and dodgy, then we will have to organise many on kingdoms
Cheers, and all the best to our Warriors Of Troy, our allies and such. Enjoy yourselves in the Tournament Grounds.

A M2TW Campaign would be cool, im glad thats the way the vote is swinging!
I think, for the Multiplayer Campaign to be efficient, and for it to not take too long between turns, you need to limit the human players.
The theory of lots of intelligent human competition on Campaign is grand, but putting that theory into practice is nigh on impossible.
About 6 people maximum should be a good balance, any more and the time between turns would be so long it would be boring, and hard to keep track of where units/agents/ships are etc.
Simo, i believe there is something called a RetroFit Mod, which installs some of the units and battles and balances from Kingdoms onto M2TW, things like cavalry not so powerful etc. You can also get RetroFit MP, so you can battle online, however im unaware of any Mods that actually "link" the maps from Kingdoms seperate campaigns and the main map from M2TW, although that would be SWEET!
I might send Konie a pm, him being our resident M2TW expert and most active player on it, see if he would be interested in a Multiplayer Campaign as well.
Vlad, also would you like for me to create a sub-forum for our Kingdoms Campaign? A place to have a diplomatic thread and a save passing thread as well etc! _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/TheConfusedJohnny
Indeed, I will await Konie's response on the mtw2 mp campaign.
I shall open up a sub-forum for MP campaigns on MTW2, and in it organise topics for diplomacy, offensives, defensives and such
This should be epic! Just me, you and Mehmet for this one Johnny. It is Very Hard cpu and Very Hard cpu for battles as well so it should be very challenging and very fun!

I have some awesome news for you all, something thats making my mouth water even more at the prospect of a M2TW Hotseat!
I have tested the Hotseat unlocking myself, AND IT WORKS A CHARM!
It works near identically to the Hotseat Mode in Kingdoms, each player can Password there Faction etc, even the screens at beginning at end of your turn are the same!
You have all the same options as within a Kingdoms Hotseat, AI difficulty, Battle time limit etc! It really is simple to do!
Its the same as the battle editor and movie camera on M2TW, they are there but you have to unlock them in the preferences text, once you do they work fine! NO BUGS, NO GLITCHES!
Also, i know how to make myself an admin on the Hotseat, so that if anyone goes inactive i can reset there factions password and we can find a substitute for them. I can also AT ANY POINT during the Hotseat return a faction to AI control, so inactivity WILL NOT SLOW OR STALL this Hotseat.
This, dear friends, means WE ARE ON!
Now i have spoken with a few of you directly who have confirmed you will DEFINATELY be taking part in this.
Using just the people who have posted here, its Simo, Vlad and myself for definate.
I have spoken with Nunaronas and Konie, both have said they will join however neither has posted here as yet as i asked them to.
Konie explained he will be on holiday for 3 weeks, so would be able to join in mid to late August.
Dafuge is also trying to fix his install issues with M2TW so he can take part, and im led to beleive by Vladimir that Mehmet is also a maybe!
I would ideally like to start this within the next week or two, so on that basis if everyone confirmed we would have
Mehmet, Nunaronas, Simo, Dafuge, Vladimir and myself!!
That would be IMMENSE!
Now obviously we would need to finalise some rules beforehand, so i will now offer some suggestions as to rules we could use.
1. Absolutely NO INPUTTING of cheats through the console
2. Each player has a maximum of 3 days in which to play there turn, after which there go will be skipped.
3. If a player is skipped 3 times in a row, or 5 times in total, there Faction will be returned to AI control or a substitute found.
4. Faction selection will take place at a later time, potentially using this method- As WOTs most active member, and somewhat an Insomniac, i will send everyone a pm at a conveniant time for all (within reason of timezones), upon receipt of that pm we will operate a first post first served policy with whoever posts at link in pm stating Faction first will receive that Faction.
The reason for the no cheats is pretty obvious.
I was thinking a max 3 day per player rule as with 6 players it could potentially be 18 days before another turn, or near 3 weeks. This would accomodate those with family/work/school commitments without making the wait between turns to prolonged and therefore contributing to lost interest by other parties involved. Lets be fair, no-one can say that in 3 weeks they were to busy to find an hour and play there turn.
The penalties for repeated skipping are pretty obvious as well, basically if your turn is repeatedly being skipped then your not very active so are not contributing to other parties enjoyment, as such the place can be filled with a more active player who will contribute or with the AI.
In some cases this might be able to add excitement however, maybe if we imposed a rule where if someone drops out through inactivity ALL remaining players get opportunity to "defect" from current faction and become alligned with vacant Faction, this would be simple to do. It would just be a case of giving the player the password for vacant faction and setting the players old Faction to AI control.
This would then obviously add another dimension to diplomacy, say you are being exploited coz of weakness territory wise, paying loads in tribute to keep allies who help you rarely, then you "defect" and become leader of a more powerful faction, ready to heap sorrow upon your detractors and tormentors! Obviously the only opportunities for this will be if someone drops out, which we all hope doesnt happen, but its a way of adding a positive to a negative situation and deriving more enjoyment from it for the people still involved.
The Faction selection rule was basically because of people who pick the same Faction as someone else, and deciding who should be granted said Faction. Maybe another way would be for everyone to send me a pm stating first and second choice Factions and i then use my discretion to award said Factions to players.
So thats it for now as far as rules like these are concerned, any of you have any ideas etc then please post here and say.
THIS IS IT GUYS! ITS ALL SYSTEMS GO SO IF YOU HAVE AN OPINION SAY BEFORE ITS TOO LATE, COZ THIS TRAIN IS PULLING OUT BABY!!
(Im so excited by Hotseats atm! Its like a whole new dimension and gamemode waiting to be mastered and enjoyed)
I think this is all a great idea! Im looking forward to playing our Britannia campaign!
However, a few problems have come to mind of the Medieval II, mostly about settings.
Quoted from a gamespot forum, talking of Medieval II: Total War v1.3 campaign:
Quote:
"Besides, the Auto-Resolve is TOTALLY scewed to the enemy. I mean, I like to fight a lot of the battles myself, but late in the game, there are a lot of pesky little 2-4 unit rebel armies popping up, and they get tedious as hell. But on VH, unless I have something like a 75% advantage, Auto-Resolve results in me getting my a** handed to me, so I end up HAVING to fight all those cr**ppy little battles myself (which are always easy wins). ANNOYING!"
Here a user talks about problems of Very hard battles for AI opponents. All AI units recieve bonuses in defence/attack, making auto resolved battles frustrating as you will need a decent advantage on the enemies to break even. This would be alright, but seeing as we may use a very hard campaign difficulty, it means that the enemies will be churning out units and enemies who never run out of florins.
Quote:
"On Campaign, the AI flat out cheats. Even on Hard, the other factions never actually run out of money, no matter how Bankrupt they are. And that's OK, since I would hate for a faction to get eliminated just because they went broke. But on VH, the AI spawns in full stacks out of thin air. I guess that could be considered making the game harder, since you can get blindsided, but IMHO, it's just cheating...and ANNOYING!"
Another problem is if AI campaign difficulty is on very hard. The quoted user on the gamespot forums outline the key issues. The AI will churn out stacks of units, far more than they are able to produce each turn. Along with very hard battle AI, this would make a Medieval II campaign "annoying", as the person said.
I suggest that for our Medieval II campaign that we put both sections as Hard, Hard, so the AI is challenging but not impossible.
Also, I suggest that for the Medieval II campaign we put Auto resolve. When most of the AI is destroyed, the only fun thing to do would be to have our own wars. Having auto-resolve would make everything a lot simpler.
-Note: I think V. Hard/V. Hard AI should be fine for our small britannia campaign because there are only two factions to ally against, not 20 :p _________________
